Used Turbo Engines for Sale – 2JZ, EJ20, N54 & More, Tested & Ships Worldwide
used turbo engines for sale

Turbocharged engines have taken over the automotive world, and for good reason. They deliver more power from smaller displacement, better fuel economy at cruising speeds, and that mid-range pull that makes daily driving genuinely enjoyable. When a turbo engine fails, finding a quality replacement can feel complicated — but it doesn’t have to be. At Best Automobile Parts, we stock tested used turbo engines from Japanese, European, and American manufacturers, and we ship worldwide.

Whether you’re a mechanic doing a straightforward swap or a builder looking for a specific forced-induction platform to work with, we have the stock and we know what we’re talking about when it comes to used turbo engines.

Why Used Turbo Engines Make Sense as Replacements

People sometimes hesitate on used turbo engines because turbocharged motors have a reputation for needing more maintenance. That’s partially true and worth understanding correctly. A turbo engine that’s been maintained with proper oil change intervals, quality oil, and adequate warm-up and cool-down time will last as long as any naturally aspirated engine. The problems come from neglect — running cheap oil too long, cutting off the engine immediately after a hard run, ignoring boost leaks.

When we source used turbo engines, we specifically look at the oil condition inside the valve cover. Sludge is the enemy of turbo longevity. A clean engine with documented mileage from a Japanese domestic market source, where regular oil changes are cultural rather than optional, is a legitimate quality unit. We check those things before the engine goes in our inventory.

For buyers who want extra certainty, our certified used engines inventory includes turbo units that have passed additional verification steps.

Most Popular Used Turbo Engines We Carry

Toyota 2JZ-GTE – 3.0L Twin-Turbo Inline-6

This is one of the most famous engines ever built. The 2JZ-GTE powered the Toyota Supra MKIV from 1993 to 2002 and has since been swapped into everything imaginable. Sequential twin turbos, iron block, DOHC with 24 valves. Factory output: 276 hp (Japanese spec) to 320 hp (US spec). With built internals it handles 600, 800, even 1,000+ hp reliably. Displacement: 2,997cc. Bore x stroke: 86mm x 86mm. These come up in our stock periodically and they go quickly. Check our Used Japanese Engines catalog for current availability.

Subaru EJ20 and EJ257 – 2.0L / 2.5L Turbocharged Flat-Four

The EJ20 turbocharged engine powered the Impreza WRX from 1992 through the mid-2000s and continues in various forms today. Factory output ranges from 218 hp (base WRX) to 280 hp (STI). The EJ257 2.5L version used in North American STIs makes 293–305 hp stock. Horizontally-opposed layout with forged internals on the higher-output versions. Bore x stroke: 92mm x 75mm (EJ20), 99.5mm x 79mm (EJ257). A beloved platform in the enthusiast world. See our current stock for Subaru applications.

Mitsubishi 4G63T – 2.0L Turbocharged Inline-4

The heart of the Evolution series. The 4G63T ran from the Evo I through Evo IX and also appeared in the Galant VR-4 and Eclipse GST/GSX. Factory power ranges from 240 hp to 286 hp depending on Evo revision. DOHC 16-valve with a cast iron block that’s famous for its strength. Displacement: 1,997cc. Bore x stroke: 85mm x 88mm. These are not easy to find in good condition anymore — when one comes through our stock it gets snapped up. Contact us directly if you need one.

Nissan RB26DETT – 2.6L Twin-Turbo Inline-6

The GT-R engine. Sequential twin turbochargers, DOHC, 24 valves, individual throttle bodies. Factory output: 276 hp (JDM restricted), but the platform is known to handle 500+ hp with minimal internal modification. Displacement: 2,568cc. Bore x stroke: 86mm x 73.7mm. The RB26 is a collector engine at this point and pricing reflects that — but we do see units come through, primarily from Japan where the R32/R33/R34 platform is still actively traded.

Toyota 1GR-FE with Supercharger / 2GR-FSE

While not a traditional turbocharged setup, Toyota’s D4-S direct injection turbocharged applications (like the 2GR-FSE and later 2GR-FKS in the Lexus LC500h application) represent modern forced induction Toyota engineering. For straight turbo setups, the 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV diesel turbocharged four-cylinders are also heavily stocked in our inventory, powering Hilux and Land Cruiser platforms globally.

BMW N54B30 – 3.0L Twin-Turbo Inline-6

Found in the E90/E92 335i, E89 Z4 35i, and F10 535i (early). Twin mono-scroll turbochargers, DOHC, direct injection, 300–320 hp factory. The N54 has a massive tuning community behind it — 300–400 hp tunes on a stock block are common. Displacement: 2,979cc. Bore x stroke: 84mm x 89.6mm. Injector and HPFP issues are well-documented on early cars, so knowing service history matters here. Browse our Used European Engines page for current BMW stock.

BMW N55B30 – 3.0L Single Twin-Scroll Turbo

The N54’s successor. Replaced twin-mono-scroll turbos with a single twin-scroll unit, which reduced turbo lag and simplified the system. Same 300–320 hp output with a cleaner, more modern tune. Found in F30 335i, F10 535i (later), and X5 35i. Generally considered more reliable than the N54 due to improved HPFP design and simplified turbo system. Strong stock availability from European-market vehicles.

Ford EcoBoost 2.3L – Mustang / Focus RS

Ford’s 2.3L EcoBoost is a proper performance four-cylinder. The Mustang EcoBoost version makes 310–330 hp. The Focus RS version is tuned to 350 hp with overboost function. Direct injection, turbo, DOHC with variable cam timing. These are relatively recent engines and low-mileage used examples are starting to appear as Focus RS and Mustang EcoBoost cars with higher mileage come into the replacement market. A solid engine for buyers on a performance budget.

Honda K20C – 2.0L Turbocharged (Civic Type R)

Honda’s turbocharged K-series. The FK8/FL5 Civic Type R version makes 306–315 hp from 2.0L. DOHC, direct injection, variable cam timing. This is the modern performance Honda engine and it’s going to become increasingly common as a replacement engine over the next decade. We track availability closely. Pair this with our Used 4 Cylinder Engines page for the full Honda four-cylinder inventory.

Volkswagen / Audi 2.0 TFSI – EA888 Gen 3

The Gen 3 EA888 is a significant improvement over earlier versions — improved timing chain tensioner, better oil control. Found in Golf GTI (Mk7/Mk7.5/Mk8), Audi A3, Audi Q3, and more. Output: 180–230 hp depending on state of tune. Displacement: 1,984cc. Bore x stroke: 82.5mm x 92.8mm. These are common engines worldwide and we keep stock available. Browse our European turbo engine listings for current stock.

Turbo Diesel Engines – A Separate Category Worth Knowing

Many of the most in-demand used turbo engines worldwide are diesel. The Toyota 1KD-FTV (3.0L) and 1VD-FTV (4.5L V8) run in Land Cruisers and Hiluxes globally. The Nissan ZD30DDT powers the Patrol and Navara. The Land Rover Td5 and 300Tdi diesel engines are critical for older Defender owners. The BMW M57 3.0L diesel is found in 330d, 530d, and X5 35d vehicles across Europe and globally.

Turbo diesel engines are technically different from petrol turbocharged units — they compress at much higher ratios and the turbo handles more heat for longer periods. Sourcing matters even more here. We stock turbo diesels specifically on our Used Diesel Engines page where they’re organized by application and displacement.

What to Know Before Buying a Used Turbo Engine

A few things worth understanding when buying a used turbo engine:

The turbocharger itself may or may not be included. We specify what’s included with every unit. Some come with the complete assembly, some without the turbo (which you can reuse if it’s in good shape). Ask if it’s not clear on the listing.

Check the intercooler and charge piping on your vehicle before installing. A collapsed intercooler hose or cracked intercooler from the original engine failure is an easy thing to miss and will cause the new engine to run poorly.

Use quality oil from day one. This isn’t negotiable with turbo engines. Full synthetic, correct viscosity, change on time. Turbo bearings run on oil pressure and temperature — abuse it early and you’ll shorten the engine’s life significantly.

Allow proper idle time after startup and before shutdown. Especially important in colder climates. 30 seconds to a minute of idle after a cold start lets oil pressure build through the turbo before load is applied. Same after a hard run — let the turbo cool before cutting the engine.

Worldwide Shipping on Used Turbo Engines

We ship used turbo engines globally. The United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, South Africa, UAE, Singapore, Japan (yes, we ship to Japan too on occasion), and dozens of other countries. Freight is handled on proper pallets with engine stands, strapped and secured. Customs documentation is accurate and complete so clearance goes smoothly.

Turbo engines vary in weight — a 2JZ-GTE is significantly heavier than an EJ20 — so shipping quotes vary. Contact us for a shipping quote to your location before ordering if you’re outside the standard freight zones.

For context on turbocharger technology and how these engines work, Wikipedia’s article on turbocharged petrol engines is a thorough starting point. For performance context, Motor Trend’s feature on the best turbo engines gives useful perspective on which platforms have proven most reliable over time.

Pricing on Used Turbo Engines

Turbo engines generally carry a premium over naturally aspirated equivalents because demand is high and the pool of quality low-mileage units is smaller:

  • Toyota 2JZ-GTE: $2,500 – $6,500+
  • Subaru EJ20 Turbo (WRX): $1,200 – $2,800
  • Subaru EJ257 (STI): $2,000 – $4,500
  • Mitsubishi 4G63T: $2,000 – $5,000
  • Nissan RB26DETT: $3,500 – $8,000+
  • BMW N54B30: $1,500 – $3,500
  • BMW N55B30: $1,400 – $3,200
  • VW/Audi 2.0 TFSI EA888 Gen3: $900 – $2,000
  • Ford EcoBoost 2.3L: $1,000 – $2,500

These are estimates. Actual prices depend on mileage, market availability at time of purchase, and what’s included with the unit. Prices on our listings reflect current stock.
